5 Months Old

Baby girl is now 5 months old! Where did the time go? It is flying by way too fast and I just want it to slow down! She's growing so much. We got a weight check last Saturday and she weighs 15 lbs, 6 oz. She is up from 13 lbs, 9 oz from 5 weeks prior, but it was on a different scale, so not sure if it's exact. But, looks like she's still growing! And she has the sweetest disposition. Every morning I wake up to a smiling girl. I'm savoring every smile because I know there may (probably will) be a day when she wakes up hollering for me to get out!! :) She's starting to sit in the "tripod" position for several seconds by herself. She's rolling all over the place. She starts on her back at one end of the crib and ends up on her belly at the other end. We've had the crud here the past couple of days. She is not happy when I have to suction her nose, in fact, she screams like I've just given her a shot! Hopefully this will pass soon. But, 5 months without sickness is pretty good to me! We have not started cereal yet. I'm holding off as long as I can. It's so tempting, but we're planing to wait until just before her 6th month birthday at the end of October.

Here's some pictures!

Wild thing....this hair has been sticking straight up all day!

Here is the 5 month old baby girl wearing her other Baylor outfit.

Last weekend, we participated in the Uvalde Walk for Autism. It was nice to have hubby and baby girl with me. She's ready to go!

Always happy!

Our family!

Pooped at the end of the day, but always
happy to have her chicken to chew on!

In other news, we bought a bigger vehicle. I've been in love with Toyota's Sequoia for a long time, so we found one a couple of weeks ago and came home with it. It's big and spacious, and I can put the stroller in the back without having to struggle! Can't wait to travel in it in a week to our friend's wedding in Fredericksburg!

Everything else is going well. We're looking forward to a quiet weekend here at home to catch up on some rest!

That was too deep...

Ok, so apparently that last blog was way too deep...I had to take several weeks off to recover. Ha.

Actually, I've been traveling up and down these Texas roads....almost sounds like a song. We started off 4 weeks ago in Corpus Christi. Then the past 2 weekends we went to Belton. Now, we are home for a while! No more travels for us tired folk. This is going to be mostly a picture blog. I'm ok with that! :) Captions below will tell more. I'm just really sad I didn't get my camera out at church in Corpus! :( real bummer!

John has started his 6 weeks of training in Bastrop. We dropped him off last weekend and he's back now for the weekend. We're doing well, but we sure are glad to see him this weekend! It's hard to feel sorry for him to get to stay in such a beautiful place! I think Bastrop State Park is one of the prettiest in the state.

Sophia with Amanda, one of my friends and former co-workers from Corpus. She's working on her second little one who will be just as cute as the first!

This is Andrew, one of Sophia's future boyfriends. I also used to work with his parents, Denise and Stephen in Corpus.

Speaking of Denise and Drew....

This is my dad's Aunt Pat, her daughter Dodi, son-in-law Barry, grandson and great-granddaughter and great-niece Sophia.

Melodie and Mark with Mitchell (one of their 4 :)

Mitchell was so sweet with Sophia. He has a really caring spirit about him.

Mike and Martha with Mitchell and Marshall

The kitchen was a frequent hang out while we lived in Corpus! Good times!

Teacher, turned mentor, now friend, Shannon with one of her girls Avery.

Good college friend Jennifer with her two kids Matthew and Genesis.

Good college friend Amy with her daughter Mayan.

Here we all are, I finally got to join the girls as mommy!
Me, Sophia, Genesis, Mayan, Matthew, Jennifer, Amy, and Avery

Labor Day in Belton, Aunt Molly came down to visit! My girl!

Nana, Sophia and Mommy!
We went back for our 3rd weekend traveling. Got some really cute fall pictures. Thanks Nana for setting it up so nice!

Pawpaw and his little girl
While in Belton, I got on a kick making burp cloths. Once back in Uvalde, I went to Keepsake Kottage and they embroidered them for me! So cute. I like to give the burp cloths as gifts. We happen to go through a lot of burp cloths and bibs since Sophia's a spitter! I know the cloths say Sophie, but that's ok. Either works. Also had the diaper bag embroidered. I had wanted it done for a long time and when I went in and mentioned it, he was able to do it right then and there. This is a pro of living in a small town.

(The camo cloth was for daddy!)

Thanks for keeping up with us. I'll try to be better about updating, but Sophia's stocking kit came in and I need to get on that soon too!!! Oh, and there's this pesky little defensive driving course I need to complete....ugh. :)

Time flies

Where have the past 4 months gone? Tomorrow night, 4 months ago, I remember being in a whirl. I was being wheeled into the labor & delivery OR and prepped to bring little Sophia into the world. I remember shivering so much. The CRNA put a blower of warm air aimed at my chest, but it didn't seem to do anything to stop my shivering. I remember thinking that I needed to be still because they were cutting me open and I didn't want them to miss! I tried deep breathing. I tried distracting my thoughts. All to no avail. I remember hearing her first cry. "10:10 pm" Dr. Utterback announced. How beautiful. To know that she was breathing and not too happy about the cold air and bright lights...what a change that must have been from the dark, warm womb to which she had grown accustomed. I felt such a relief to hear her. And seeing her, it seemed like just a second that I was able to look at her. And I was still shivering so much, I don't know if I was concentrating enough on her. And then, she was whisked off to the nursery, and John with her. There I was, having experienced the most incredible moment in my life and I was left all alone. The CRNA was so nice and supportive. He continued to talk to me and make sure I was ok. But it wasn't the same. I could hear the doctors talking, about what I don't remember. But I remember thinking - why are you talking about anything except sewing me up? And I was so jealous of John, and my parents, who got to see my little miracle. I was rolled into recovery. I had to wait there for what seemed like an hour. I was thirsty. They gave me ice. Not really a thirst-quencher. Where's the Gatorade? I must have gone through 4 cups of ice. Where's my little girl? How long til I can see her? At midnight, they rolled me into my postpartum room and I finally got to see my little girl again - nearly 2 hours after I first heard her cry. And she was beautiful. And all was right with the world.

It all seems like last week, not 4 months ago. And thank you for indulging my reminiscing.

Video Frustrations and Blogger

I uploaded a test video the other day. It worked beautifully! I was so excited! I took a video off my camera card, happily converted it over to a legitimate format, even edited it down into shorter segments....Then I go to upload it into my blog and lo, and behold....ERROR!!! ARRRRGGGGGHHHHH. Double Argh because I have "contacted" blogger as instructed in the error message and it goes to a forum where the only solution provided is to get something from the blogdoctor. This is not associated with blogger, only someone peddling his solution.

So, I'm working on it. PHHHTTT. (*Sound of disgust!*)

Video Test

This is a short video just to test my new converter software and trying out the upload.

Thanks Nikki!

The blog update and new look are courtesy of instructions from my buddy Nikki. Thanks for the instructions!

The washer is fixed!!! Woohoo! Never thought I'd be so happy to do laundry again. Now, if only we could get one of the several electricians we called to call us back - I could get electricity in the bathrooms again! I was looking forward to a nice bath tonight after the baby went down, but I'm too tired to draw the water! :)

So, short update. Actually it's not an update. Things here are good. That's all. Goodnight! :)

I should be sleeping....

But, I can tell by all the comments you people can't stop leaving, you are craving another post... [insert sarcasm] :) Haha.

So, we had another milestone tonight. We have mastered rolling from back to belly. Not quite got the belly to back yet. She just rolls on to her belly and cries because she really didn't want to be there! :) Got video, but haven't gotten my conversion software on this new computer yet. One day....

She's also started laughing intentionally. This past weekend was horrible. My washing machine flooded the laundry room Saturday night. It was such an ordeal to clean up and try to figure out what the problem was. In an effort to narrow down the cause (I originally thought it was maybe the plumbing of the house), I ended up flooding the laundry room again! During this time, picture hungry crying baby, tired crying mommy, and daddy working the night shift! This was all after a long (albeit successful) day of shopping in San Antonio off craigslist. So, baby fed, laundry room cleaned and then snuggling with babe. All I could do was laugh....and she laughed back. We laughed at each other a few times and it was all ok....until....

I tried one more thing to see what part of the washer might be fowling up. This was now Sunday and hubby was back at work on the night shift (Why didn't I do it BEFORE he went to work?). And, yes, you guessed it....flooded again! And it wasn't what I expected. I thought maybe the pump that pumps the water through the drain hose wasn't working. So I put it on the smallest setting and walked away....yes, this was a mistake. I came back in a few minutes and it was still filling...and filling....and filling...and AAAARRRRRGGGGGHHHHHH!. It doesn't stop. I shut it off and start manually draining it, carrying gallons of water (again) out to the yard (guess I am going to water my yard). Well, during this drain, the hose falls off the back of the washer!! A gully gusher came a flowing! No way to stop it....I can't get back there in time to plug the hose back up (very small space....heavy washer fully of water). Well, we cleaned it all up again. Hungry and tired baby crying again (She took all of 1 hour-long nap while we were at church). Tired mommy crying again. And no laughing that night! :) This is all so dramatic. But that's how it seemed. I have never been so grateful for a Monday to get here!

In other news, we found a portable battery operated swing and a kick & play bouncer seat. They both have lights since Sophia loves lights! I got them all cleaned up and washed the washable parts (BEFORE the washer fiasco...which by the way, I had also done a load of John's laundry and Sophia's laundry...so everyone has clean clothes except me!)

We have also begun sitting in the bumbo seat.
She got a little tired of me taking so many pictures! :)

This was before church....and before spit up.

This is definitely where she gets those beautiful blue eyes.

Her new kick & play bouncer seat. Not bad for $10!

And one of my favorite pictures ever.

Thanks for keeping up with us....now, comment people!
