Happy Birthday Sophia!

What a special little girl I have in my life! No matter what else has gone on in my day, she makes it all perfect! Here's the story....of a lovely lady....

First of all...doctor's visit stats: 23 lbs (80th percentile), 29 inches (50th percentile) and head circumference was 90th percentile...cant remember the inches! She has 7 1/2 teeth (that lower right tooth is peeking out!). We can hold the spoon and guide it (messily) to the mouth to eat our cereal. We sleep 12 hours/night and 1 nap for about 1 1/2 hours during the day. Our bangs are getting so long, we now wear a "BamBam" style hairdo. We have said our first word, "baby" when looking at the computer screen (it's Sophia in the bluebonnets), but we've been much more consistent with "puppy" to talk about the puppy in the back yard and the puppies at nana's and pawpaw's house! Not walking solo yet, but cruising holding on to everything and pushing a walking toy. Switched over to whole milk without much fuss and eating table food mostly. She's about to start writing a dissertation on the fundamental speaking frequency of native Swahili speakers when transplanted to the Arctic Circle....just seeing if you were still reading!

The day before her birthday, our dear friends, the Lowke's came to Uvalde on business. We met up for dinner (wish it had been longer!! looking forward to the 4th of July!) at Jack's steakhouse where hubby and I have our traditional night of $1.99 spaghetti with half-price appetizers. (I know, we are living the dream, baby!)

We had our first birthday party (and birthday cake!) at Sophia's (former) daycare, Matthews Learning Center. Lots of fun and both hubby and I got to be there!
"You know I'm gonna take these off as soon as you move your hands right?"

I was going to make the fully ladybug cake like I had practiced, but figured the kids would do better with individual cupcakes instead. I think they turned out ok anyway. Especially considering I had turned several of them upside down during a transporting maneuver and had to redecorate!

"Is there more??"

We headed to Nana's and Pawpaw's house for the big celebration with family and friends. She got to wear her new embroidered shirt we got from Stitcheroos which was perfect!! She has a shop on etsy.com and I fell in love with the design. I made the tutu after finding some instructions on the internet. I think it turned out pretty cute!

With mommy and daddy!

With nana and pawpaw
With Uncle Willace, Aunt Liz and cousins Ryder and Gunner (loving some cookie!)
Molly came from Dallas!!

Joanna came from Houston!! (her mom came from Dallas too!!)

Our friend Keri came with her son, Ryan. He and Sophia were due the same day (he made it on time, Sophia needed to make a grand, late entrance)

John's mom came from Waco and his sister came from Dallas. Wow, we've had a lot of Texas travelers show up!!
Aren't they cute??

One of the neatest things was seeing Ryder so sweet with baby Sophia. He has such a kind, compassionate soul!!

I actually finished Sophia's scrapbook (up to the first b-day party) and had it out for anyone to view. The signing page is a picture with a nice quote on the side where I had our guests sign their attendance and they could wish a birthday greeting to Sophia. It will be the last page in her 1st year scrapbook.

And then there was cake!!!! I got the cake pan from Hobby Lobby and the Wilton products also from Hobby Lobby when I had a 40% off coupon! I needed it because I had to practice the cake a time or two before the big day :) I think it turned out ok.

Before cake....

And after....

We have had such a fun year! We feel so blessed that God entrusted this precious little angel to us on Earth. This Sunday is my second Mother's Day and we are having her dedicated at church. I'm also singing a special song, Martina McBride's "In My Daughter's Eyes". Truly a special song thanking God for my special girl!

Been a long time...part 2

So, Easter was a lot of fun and now we are preparing for her first birthday party. I have actually been planning some aspect of it since February. Yes, I'm one of those mommies.

April 18th we traveled to see the leftover bluebonnets. I knew I had waited too long here in south Texas. Most of them had gone to seed already, but every little Texas child has to have bluebonnet pictures. So, dear hubby was kind enough to go with me and baby girl. We drove 25 miles east to a rest stop between Sabinal and D'Hanis. There were a few bb's left! But as you'll see in the pics, a lot of seeds too!
"I'm popeye the sailor man..."

My favorite. I wear this one on my badge at work and had an 8x10 made.

That same day, I attempted my first homemade tutu. I have a cute skirt for her we got at Children's Place, but I had been seeing these tutu's for little girls. I figured I could make one of those. Found some easy directions on the internet and put it together in a couple of hours. I have since added some white ribbon for some more pop. We will either use black leggings or a while diaper cover which I'm having embroidered. Pics to come from the b-day party.

In sad news, we have had to find other day care for baby girl. Our fabulous lady, Mrs. Matthews, has had a really hard time finding help that will be good and consistent. So, she decided to close out her infant room (under 18 mos) and just keep the toddlers. We are so very sad. There was no better place she could have been when I went back to work. I am sure she will get great care at the Methodist church, but it won't be as homey as Ms. Matthews. Our first day will be when we get back from the big birthday party at mom's/dad's.

So, that brings us to our little gathering. I have no idea how to plan a party, so hopefully no one will be expecting too much! Pics to come!!

Been a long time...part 1

Oh, blog, have I neglected you. There's been so much going on!

Here we go...

At the end of March, our hospital had an Easter egg hunt complete with Easter bunny.

Little girl was not too impressed with the Easter bunny. I tried to drop and run backwards, but she caught a glimpse first.

She was only slightly better during this position.

What do I do with these, mom?

I'm so over all this mom.

One April 1st, Mrs. Matthews had a nice little photo op set up at the day care. Very sad about leaving there, but more on this later...

"You want me to look where?"

"Wow, I am your sunshine, right mommy?"
Yes, mommy had good intuition this day picking out her outfit!

"What'cha lookin' at wabbit?"

Easter weekend, we had another Easter egg hunt at my childhood church.

Happy girls!!!

Sophia kept taking out her eggs and little kids were trying to come get them. I fended them off. I'm a momma cub yanno. :)

She was in such a pretty yellow dress that she needed a picture by nana's pretty yellow flowers!

Easter morning!!

Easter morning at church with cousin RyRy. I love this picture.

All 3 of nana's grandkids together, looking quite dapper.

Playing with stuffed animals

Ok, so I may be getting the hang of this embedding thing. We'll just have to see. She absolutely loves her soft stuffed animals. The puppy is from Joanna and the bunny is from Shelley. She loves to bury her face in the puppy. I think she would do that with our cat too if he would stay still long enough.

Trying....

to learn something new. Since blogger won't let me upload my videos directly, I have to upload them to youtube first. So, hopefully in the next couple of days, you'll get to see some videos.

Daylight savings time is still messing with me. I should not have taken that nap this afternoon! Luckily, baby girl is sleeping. We started her time change transition on Friday, so maybe it won't be too bad tomorrow when she goes back to school.

Enjoy the videos! I hope there's beautiful weather wherever you are!

Bad, bad mommy!

It's been nearly 2 months since last post. How in the world will I remember everything that's happened since then? I can remember logging in and seeing that the blogs I follow had not updated in forever and being - dare I say - upset. And now look at me :) I must say, the fact that Lisa told me she read my blog, made me feel guilty about not updating. So, now that the little munchkin is asleep, I blog.

Where to begin...our 9 month dr's visit was in January. She was the picture of being right on target in the 50th percentile for everything. This surprised us, because it seems like she's gained weight when we carry her around :). Everything looked really clear and there were no shots (yeah!). Well, 2 days prior to that, she had been really fussy, really sleepy and running a small fever. It seemed to go away, but I mentioned it to the dr anyway. No worries on the day of the appointment because she looked good. (I too had all those symptoms in addition to a horribly painful throat...worse than I had ever had, dr looked at me too and said my throat was really raw, but I was negative for strep and mono...10 days and an antibiotic later, that throat either worked it out on it's own, or the antibiotics did something. Who knows.)

Well, the next day she ran a fever again and was sent home from her day care. John took her to urgent care and she had an ear infection. Popped up over night. She also had a sinus infection. So, we got an antibiotic for her and a decongestant which cleared things up so well and she was back to sleeping through the night again! (double yay!)

We went to Houston to see my college friend Joanna and her hubby. It was a great trip, albeit rainy. Her house is beautiful, but at 4 stories, I had a good leg workout by the end!

January 18th, Sophia learned how to crawl. Just a bit, but within 36 hours she had it down. A week later, she decided to learn how to pull herself up into a standing position as below in the bathtub! eek!.

She still loves her day care and continues to practice her crawling and standing and smiling! :)

This was the Valentine's party at her day care.

We had some pics taken for her 9 month and Valentine's Day milestone. She sure was precious!

February brought us some changes. I stopped nursing. Initially, this was just going to be during work (expressing) and at lunch. She was starting to have a harder time when I would leave her after nursing her at lunch. So, we dropped the pumping and lunch nursing, but I continued morning and night. Well, that lasted about another week and now she's strictly on solid food and formula. Which hasn't seemed to hurt her any. We went to get a weight check at the hospital at her 10th month and she was 20 lbs, 15 oz. Wowzers! I thought she was getting heavier!

She loves to eat and try new foods. For now. Some of my friends with young ones tell me they are on a solid food strike. Or a formula strike. My daughter eats just like her daddy - everything! Here she is trying avocado...and changing the color of the white onesie to green :) We have 3 teeth solidly coming in and one more that's just on the cusp of emerging. Tonight, so gladly ate cooked zucchini from our meal. We are really working to try more real food rather than the baby food purees. She's not picky, thankfully!

She loves to play with her toys in the morning before we go to "school" and before our books/bath at night. This little chair came from my sister's boys and it's her favorite right now. I put the bunny up there, but she was having none of it!

I am busy planning her first birthday party which will be here in 2 months! We are gonna rock the ladybug theme. Found this perfect invitation on Etsy. Can't wait to scrap this big event! She will have a party at her day care on April 28th and we'll celebrate at nana's and pawpaw's in Belton on May 1st. I can hardly believe the time has passed as quickly as it has. But man, oh man, it's been a fun ride!

More pictures....

....because apparently I was too dumb to add them in the last post.... ;)

Enjoying some Christmas baby goats.

This is my sister's dog Wrigley. He is the reason
John is considering getting a lap dog in the future.
(I've been asking for years! :) )
